Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Land Survey Technician to support surveying projects by collecting, processing, and analyzing land data. The ideal candidate will work alongside surveyors and engineers to perform fieldwork, prepare maps, and ensure the accuracy of measurements. This role is essential in producing precise and reliable information for construction, development, and land management projects.
Key Responsibilities
Fieldwork and Data Collection
- Operate and maintain surveying instruments, such as GPS, total stations, and levels.
- Assist in conducting land, boundary, topographic, and construction surveys.
- Gather field data, including distances, angles, and elevations, in various terrains and conditions.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed during fieldwork.
Data Processing and Analysis
- Download, process, and analyze survey data using industry-standard software.
- Create detailed maps, plats, and other visual representations of survey results.
- Verify the accuracy of collected data and resolve discrepancies.
Project Support
- Collaborate with surveyors, engineers, and project managers to meet project deadlines and objectives.
- Prepare and maintain field notes, sketches, and reports documenting survey results.
- Assist in establishing property boundaries and providing legal descriptions for land parcels.
Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain and calibrate survey equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Troubleshoot technical issues with equipment as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree in surveying, geomatics, or a related field is preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in land surveying or a related field.
- Proficiency in operating surveying instruments and related software (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS, Trimble Business Center).
- Strong understanding of basic mathematics, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal surveying regulations and standards.
- Ability to interpret and create technical drawings and maps.
